On Wednesday, December 14, 2022, Dr. Samah Al-Jabari of the Civil Engineering Department in the College of Engineering took part on behalf of PPU in the Birzeit University event titled "The Reality of Palestinian Women in the Water Sector," which called for the empowerment of Palestinian women in the water sector.
The Palestinian Water Authority, the Institute of Environmental and Water Studies, the Palestinian Hydrology Group and the Women Water Network collaborated to arrange the conference.
Minister Mazen Ghoneim opened the conference. He mentioned in his speech that there are important benefits to empowering women in various sectors, particularly the water sector.
Mr. Ghoneim added that the primary goal of the women's integration process in the short and medium runs is to establish the necessary conditions for gender equality in water resource management.
Samah Al-Jabari took part by submitting a research paper titled "Water Security in the Water Sector in the Palestinian Territories from a Palestinian Researcher's Point of View." The presentation and discussion were warmly received by the audience, and both those in the conference room and those participating through Zoom from Switzerland and Gaza made many insightful contributions. Al-Jabari’s suggestions in her presentation made up a significant part of the conference's recommendations.
