The President of Palestine Polytechnic University Prof. Imad Khatib, received Dr. Tamrika Shvili, from the University of Utah in America, who arrived at the University to give the staff of the Language and Translation Center (LTC) a specialized training program in Alternative Assessment. After the meeting, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mustafa Abu Al-Safa and the Director of the LTC Dr. Muhammad Al-Tamimi, open the training session in the presence of the LTC’s staff and a number of teachers from the University various colleges as well.
Dr. Al-Khatib welcomed Dr. Tamrika and emphasized her ability to help provide all that is new in the field of alternative assessment and modern teaching methods.
As well, Dr. Abu Al-Safa hoped that the training of the LTC’s staff would be reflected on the students' attitudes towards English and help in developing their English language skills so that the University graduates would have better opportunities in the labor market.
For his part, Dr. Al-Tamimi clarified that this training is just one part of the training program that the LTC has been working on for a while to create change and to develop the English language teaching at the university by activating the language and developing activities inside and outside the classroom and doing a more fair assessment as an alternative for traditional exams that do not help the students to learn the language appropriately. Dr. Al-Tamimi also noted that this training would prepare the teacher to develop activities that enable students to use the English language effectively inside and outside the classroom during their school life and after graduation.
The first stage of training lasts for two weeks, followed by another training in curriculum development in February, during which teachers will develop action research to be presented at the LTC Conference, held next April.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Tamrika Shvili taught English at Palestine Polytechnic University last year.
