A closing ceremony was held at Bethlehem University to celebrate the completion of the success of the activities of AGYA Summer School in Numerical Simulation. The summer school is one of the projects of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities(AGYA), organized mainly in partnership with Palestine Polytechnic University, Bethlehem University and Palestine Academy of Science and Technology. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education and also Chairman of Palestine Academy of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Marwan Awartani, the President of Palestine Polytechnic University Prof. Dr. Imad Khatib, the Vice President of Bethlehem University Dr. Peter Bray, the Head of the organizing Committee of the Summer School Dr. Mohammad Adam, the Coordinator of Scientific Societies at Palestine Academy of Science and Technology Dr. Ibrahim Al-Masri, and the Vice-President of Bethlehem University for Academic Affairs Prof. Irene, in addition to two prominent scientists: Prof. Dr. Carlo Sansour and Prof. Dr. Edrees Titi, as well as lecturer Dr. Sebastian Faller, a number of the local professors from the Palestinian universities and those who are interested in this subject and the participant students.
The Summer School at Palestine Polytechnic University aimed to expose participants to a unique experience by dealing with advanced scientific topics and have connection with world-class professors and networking with them and their institutions to support research and scientific cooperation between universities and the local and German communities.
Dr. Peter Bray started the ceremony with the welcome of the guests and the participants of the School, expressing his happiness at hosting the second week activities of the school at Bethlehem University. He also stressed the importance of this partnership with the higher education institutions, represented by Palestine Polytechnic University and Palestine Academy of Science and Technology and the international institutions represented in AGYA. As well, he encouraged Arab universities to offer similar multidisciplinary programs because of the importance of numerical simulation in Science and Technology.
Prof. Dr. Awartani also stressed the importance of investing in human resources in order to encourage scientific research in universities at the local, regional, and international level because of its results in developing competencies in different research fields, pointing out the importance of the participation of universities in different activities that help in the development of scientific research. He added also that the School comes as a continuation of the symposium organized by Palestine Academy of Science and Technology last March and he valued the role of the Head of the Organizing Committee Dr. Mohammad Adam and Prof. Dr. Carlo Sansour for their great efforts and being able to organize and hold the school in record time.
Al-Khatib in his speech emphasized the importance of partnership with higher education institutions and the local community at all levels, pointing out that numerical simulation might provide a way for Palestinian researchers at the beginning of their careers to participate in developed researches and achieve a high level of global vision and that Palestine Polytechnic University has been proactive in generating and brainstorming ideas and entrepreneurial programs as well as having the willingness to partner and provide all the reasons for success for all events. He ended his speech by expressing his happiness and gratitude for having various partnerships between the PPU and AGYA.
Dr. Mohammad Adam, Head of the Organizing Committee of AGYA Summer School in Numerical Simulation and one of the members, Assistant Professor at Palestine Polytechnic University and the Secretary of the Founding Committee of the Palestinian Mathematics Society, has pointed out that the School is one of the important projects that AGYA holds in Palestine and that the Academy is about to carry out more than 100 research and entrepreneurial projects in Germany and Arab countries this year. He then praised the qualitative meetings and work groups as during the last two weeks, the Summer school dealt with many important topics, during which a comprehensive introduction to numerical simulation was presented, hoping that it would produce entrepreneurial ideas and research papers and help outstanding students to make relations with researchers and German Interdisciplinary research groups.
Adam also thanked AGYA, the President of the PPU's Board of Trustees, the presidents of the PPU and Bethlehem University, the Minister of Education, and the President of Palestine Academy of Science and Technology for their great and unlimited support in providing all the amenities to all participants and putting all the capabilities and laboratories of the University at the disposal of the Organizing Committee in order to make the Summer School a success and to ensure all Participants and attendees have the desired benefit, not forgetting to thank all the participants for their efforts and commitment to the School.
In a related context, the partners and the participants expressed their thanks to the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) and the Head of the Organizing Committee for organizing and funding this event and giving them the opportunity to acquire such information. Also, the attendees praised the lecturers in the school and thanked them for their valuable time and efforts, and the teaching methods they used in teaching at the summer school, thus contributing to the development of the participants' skills at the scientific, research and social levels.
At the end of the ceremony, certificates were delivered to participants on the campus of Bethlehem University and then they were taken in different tours in Hebron and Bethlehem to get acquainted with the most important and famous monuments and tourist attractions.
