Under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the presence of a large number of honored people and representative of governmental and private institutions from Gaza Strip, the final and last round of Palestine Debates organized by the Falastinyat Foundation was held on March 21, 2018.
The PPU debate team has received the second place at the level of Palestine (West Bank and Gaza Strip), while the Islamic University of Gaza has won the First place with only 1 point difference.
It is noteworthy that the two debate teams were qualified for Palestine Debates for the West Bank and Gaza Strip at the end of the year 2017. This debate was the culmination of the successful efforts of both the Falastinyat Foundation and the Ministry of Education who organized a visit for Palestine Polytechnic University debate team to Gaza Strip for the first time in five years. The finals were used to be held separately in both Palestinian parts.
In this debate, the two teams debated on “ This council believes that the absence of young men and women alliance has weakened the society’s ability to be influential”. The Islamic University debate team, consisting of students: Islam Balbisi, Mohammad Abu Doon and Hamzeh Shuwaiki, was the proponent, while the PPU debate team, consisting of students: Shahd Imam, Omar Za’tari, and Ammar Abu Hussein, was the opponent. The judge committee consisted of Ms. Andaleeb Adwan, the Director of the Social Media Center, Mr. Issam Younes, the Independent Commission for Human Rights and Mr. Mohammad Jodeh, the Public Relations Manager of the Palestinian Telecommunication Group.
In her speech, Wafa Abdel Rahman , the Director of Falastinyat Foundation, expressed the FF‘s pride in this important achievement, supported by the Ministry of Education to help the West Bank debating team to arrive in Gaza to compete in this important debate. She considered that the real achievement was the great welcome to the PPU debating team members by their counterpart team in Gaza.
As well Professor Raed Barakat, the Director General of University Education at the Ministry of Education has emphasized the Ministry’s support to such activities that help in building the abilities of the University students and developing their skills. He has pointed out also that the educational process nowadays tends to be directed towards creating a human being, integrated mentally, physically, psychologically and socially and capable of having any distinguished position in the society.
Mr. Tareq al-Bitar who is in charge of the non-curricular activities at the PPU has stressed the importance of the PPU participation in such activities, despite the Israeli barriers on Palestinians. He said that this participation has come as consistent with the university strategy that aims at supporting all the extracurricular activities that help in building students’ personality in all fields a long with their academic performance.
