On December 12, 2016, the PPU held the Closing Symposium for Triple Helix Partnership in the field of energy and environment under the auspices of the PPU Board of Trustees and in the presence of Mr. Ahmad Sa’id Bayoud Tamimi, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the members of the University Graduates Union, Dr. Issa Barad’iyeh, the representative of the Palestinian Environmental Quality Authority, Dr. Imad al-Khatib, the PPU president and his vice-presidents, and Dr. Sameer Khader, the chairman of the Closing Symposium. Also a number of International researchers: Prof. Tom A. Eppes, Prof. Akram Abu Aisheh, Prof Saeid Moslehpour, from Hartford University in the United States, and Prof. Piet Kommers, from Twente University in Holland, attended this conference in addition to a number of representatives of the governmental, domestic, and community institutions, from Hebron Districts.
This symposium aims to provide a platform for scholars, scientists, researchers, decision-makers and stakeholders from the private and public sectors to discuss issues and challenges related to energy and environment and the ways to develop and sustain energy and environment. This day has come as a closing activity for the Triple Helix Partnership project, funded by the Education Quality Development Fund in the higher education institutions the International Bank “QIF”. It also comes as consistent with the vision and the strategy of Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU), emanating from the notion of creativity and integration and community service and aiming at the advancement of the Palestinian community both culturally and economically. This project as well aims to enhance the work opportunities for the students of both Energy and Environmental Engineering.
At the beginning of this day, Mr. al-Tamimi welcomed the attendants and stressed the importance of this day in enriching knowledge in the area of energy and renewable energy, environment, and sustainable growth. Dr. al-Khatib also empathized the importance of the Triple-Helix Partnership Project which keeps pace with and supports the university strategy to shift towards an entrepreneurial university, referring to the ongoing constructions in the various university sites, where several thousand square meters of buildings will be added for research, classes, and students’ activities for serving the community. He also expressed his thanks to all the companies working in the field of energy and environment in Hebron, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Tubas, and Nablus , and he thanked the Energy and Natural Resources Authority and the Environmental Quality Authority for their cooperation in this regard.
After that, Al-Barad’iyeh, sent the greetings of the Chairman of the Environmental Quality Authority to all the attendants, expressing his pride in the university achievements and its contribution to the capacity building of the Palestinians to be able to sustain the desired development and growth, referring to the plans of the environmental Quality Authority and its principles of growth sustainability.
Dr. Samir Khader also stressed the importance of the Triple-Helix Partnership Program for the three community sectors: Public, private and academic in the field of energy and environment and equipping the laboratories with advanced technological devices and equipment to develop the laboratories of energy and environment engineering. He also stressed the importance of sustainability which will continue in the academic and community cooperation after the project ends. Then, he thanked the administration of the project- Quality Development Fund at the Ministry of Higher Education and the World Bank for funding this project- which enhance the graduates’ work opportunities.
The symposium has included various valuable seminars and lectures presented by the international researchers, and a number of the University academics and students.
