The PPU has participated in the graduation of a number of national facilitators from the College of Applied Professions in the program known as "KAB Know About Business" which comes as consistent with the strategy and the vision of the university “Towards Science, Technology and Innovation Entrepreneurial University”. Some of the college staff: Mr. Akram Qaoud, Mr. Iyad Suwaiti, Miss Samira Abu Ghayoun, Miss. Aliya Abu Zaineh and Miss Sumaya Zahdeh participated in this training course to activate the program “KAB 2016 “.
This training course has been held upon the announcement to adopt the curriculum “KAB Know About Business” at 20 technical colleges in Palestine as part of the program “START” which was made by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Palestine Foundation for Development and the arm of Palestine Investment Fund in the field of social responsibility and the cooperation of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
The training course was held in The Red Crescent Hotel in Ramallah for a week, starting from Sep 24, 2016 to Sep 29, 2016. It targeted the teachers at the colleges of applied professions in Palestine to enable them to teach this compulsory course to students. These teachers have been considered as national facilitators in the program “KAB Know About Business”.
Dr. Sabri Saidam, the Minister of Education and Higher Education, confirmed that this program comes as consistent with the vision and aspirations of the ministry’s efforts to provide the Palestinian youth with experience and knowledge and become qualified in this field. This in turn will enable them to engage in the labor market and give them the opportunity to get training in all related to the world of business in order to start and develop their own projects as well as spread the culture of entrepreneurship among the Palestinian youth.
From his part, Mr. Jamal Haddad, the Director of Palestine Foundation for Development added that the program “START” helps in introducing new teaching materials that break the stereotype about our universities and teaching institutions. Introducing such material will help in the training and rehabilitation of students and make them aware of the importance of free business and being self-employed. Also, Dr. Munir Kulaibo, the ILO Representative in the occupied Palestinian territories in Jerusalem,, said that our activities in Palestine aim at enhancing the culture of free business among the youth and support them to have their own business.
Mr. Jehad Duraidi, the General Director of the Technical and Vocational Education at the Ministry of education and Higher Education stated that the first stage of the program includes training a number of the national facilitators on the content and the methodology of the educational program “KAB Know About Business” which consists of 8 training units as a curriculum, given to students during their study. The aim of this curriculum is to create and spread the culture of “ business entrepreneurship” among the students of the technical colleges and to facilitate their engagement in the labor market.
At the end of the ceremony, the Dean of the College of Applied Professions: Dr. Ishaq Sider, who attended this graduation ceremony, which took place in the headquarter of the Red Crescent Society at Al-Bira, distributed the certificates among the participants in the “KAB Know About Business” course.
