A Work Plan to obtain Accreditation for the Global Engineering and Technology Programs (ABET) discussed by Palestine Polytechnic University

The PPU is discussing a work plan to get an accreditation for the global engineering and technology programs (ABET). The Quality Assurance Unit at the University held a meeting for the Committee Council for the accreditation of global engineering and technology programs to come up with a detailed plan to get an accreditation for six academic programs for the College of Engineering and the College of Information Technology and Computer Engineering.

The President of the University Prof. Dr. Imad al-Khatib opened the meeting by stressing the importance of having a global accreditation (ABET) as achieving part of the university vision “Towards Science, Technology and Innovation Entrepreneurial University” and he praised the outstanding efforts of the academic staff and their commitment to the success of the work.

The participants discussed the main challenges that the committees may encounter during the evaluation process and how to deal with these problems. They cited examples  from the experience of the academic staff in making such assessments and evaluations and getting help from Palestinian experts, including the most distinguished graduates of Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) who work in this field.

It is noteworthy that the Global Academic Accreditation of Engineering and Technology Programs ABET will help the university in a systematic global approach to the development and improvement of the educational process and this will include  curriculum, the teaching staff competence and proficiency,  the level of students, and the financial, human and research capabilities , which will raise competitiveness  among  our students in the international labor market and later on join the best universities in the world.

It has been agreed to hold monthly meetings to follow up the work of the assessment and evaluation committees and involve any other responsible parties to contribute to the success of the assessment that should not exceed a two-year period of time.
