The Efficiency of Photovoltaic Modular Service (Flash Test Machine) launched at Palestine Polytechnic University

On September 22, 2016   the PPU launched the efficiency of photovoltaic modular service, in cooperation with the Industrial Synergy Center  at the University, and the support of the Triple Helix Partnership project , funded by the Development of  Quality Education Program Fund ( QIF)/ the International Fund.

The University has established a special unit for testing  the efficacy of photovoltaic modular "Flash Test Machine" and the extent of its compliance with the attached standard specifications.

A delegation from the university,  represented by Dr. Mohammad Ghazi al-Qawasmi, the Vice-President of the University for the Community Service Affairs,  Dr. Abdel Karim Daoud, the Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Samir Khader ,  the Project Director,  engineer Makawi Hraiz, Director of the Industrial Synergy Center, and engineer Alaa Abu Qubaita,  Research Assistant in the Research Unit of Industrial Electronics,   checked the Flash Test Machine in terms of the possibilities and the tests available to ensure its ability to work. This unit will serve both the public and private community institutions engaged in the import and installation of photovoltaic modular systems.

The function of this unit is checking the photovoltaic panels to determine the efficiency and characteristics through transmitting  radiation in the form of high-energy flashes as a source of illumination to have the photovoltaic radiation simulation, and then  analyzing  the data by using high-precision synchronizer to get all the technical properties and electrical curves of the solar cells, and verifies its accuracy by using  an electronic load in order to adopt a reliable reference for manufacturers and quality inspection institutions.

This unit has many electrical properties and features. By using this testing unit, one can get the following electrical properties: IV curve, PV curve,  short-circuit voltage Voc, the peak power Pm, the maximum power point MIP voltage Vm and current lm, fill Factor FF, the cell efficiency  η and the test temperature T.  Also this unit has many features such as having an electronic download  for  test precision, very few errors not exceeding  2%, the possibility of determining the deviation of the solar panels properties  from the official standard ,  using a lighting system that helps  to avoid the high temperature and thus the possibility of testing within standard  test conditions. " STC ".

Because of the increasing demand  for the import and installation of photovoltaic modular systems in  Palestine, the university is seeking to get accreditation for this unit from the Palestinian Standards Institution,  making it possible to determine the extent of matching the actual value of these panels with their nominal values.
