A New Global Scientific Achievement in the field of Research of Patients with Brucellosis at Palestine Polytechnic University

The two researchers: Dr. Yacoub Al-Ashhab and Dr. Mohammad Nouh Issa,  in the Biotechnology Research Center at Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU), have managed to make a new global scientific achievement in the field of research of patients with brucellosis which is one of the most common diseases that is transmitted from animals to humans.

The vaccine which was discovered by accident by the University of California  in the 50s in the last century has been the most widely used on the international level and is considered the most effective and useful in treating this disease, but there have still been a lot of questions to be answered about its genetic secrets and the way it works.

The two researchers were able to come up with an accurate and exact description of the specific features of the genomic map for this vaccine by using complex algorithm calculations to compare the genomic maps and the results were validated  in the laboratory. Also, they were able to develop a simple laboratory test to verify  the vaccine identity and to determine its quality.

After publishing the research results in the scientific magazine “Vaccine”, a well-known magazine in the field of vaccines,  Dr. Al-Ashhab stated that  some of the international companies producing this vaccine have shown their interest in the use of the research results as a benchmark of quality standards when producing this vaccine.

It is noteworthy that the Biotechnology Center had had a major role in cooperating with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture to follow up and diagnose brucellosis, the disease which struck the southern West Bank area during the last year.
