Students from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the Palestine Polytechnic University participate in scientific research on "Covid-19"

As part of the endeavor of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Palestine Polytechnic University to promote a culture of scientific research among students and staff of this College, a group of students of the Human Medicine Program, supervised by Dr. Tariq Al-Zughayer, from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, participated with a group of researchers at a global level in a medical research on Covid-19, entitled “SARS-CoV-2 vaccination modeling for safe surgery to save lives: data from an international prospective cohort study”.

In cooperation with Hebron hospitals, the students were able to collect data on "Covid-19" patients who performed surgeries during a specified period of time in Hebron hospitals. The data was related to the mortality rate of "Covid-19" patients who had surgeries, and they were compared with patients who haven’t have "Covid-19". These data were compared with patients who had received the vaccine and underwent the same surgeries.

The joint research was published in a prestigious science journal that classifies as Q1 in medicine and has a high impact factor of 5.676 in the British Journal of Surgery.

The students participating in the research, namely: Ruaa Al-Junaidi, Ayat Al-Jubeh, Belqis Shawar, Farah Shaheen, Dalin Shehadeh, and Safaa Al-Helman, stressed the importance of participating in scientific research, especially recent developments related to the Corona pandemic and its impact on reducing deaths as well as choosing the most appropriate decision for the patient.

For his part, Dr. Fawzi Al-Razem, the Acting Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, praised the research activities and research cooperation between the students and staff of the College of Medicine at this university and their counterparts from hospitals and universities at the local, regional and international levels.:
