On March 19, 2017, the PPU launched the Project of Rehabilitating the Centers of Competencies in the field of occupational safety and health in the West Bank, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and implemented by the Palestinian National Center for Occupational Safety and Health and Environmental Protection. The program entitled “ Training and enhancing the capabilities of the occupational safety and health supervisors in the centers of Competencies in the West Bank” has been launched with the participation of the centers of excellence in the West Bank.
The Director of the COSHEP, Mr. Nafez al-Sha’rawi, first welcomed the attendees and then he pointed out the importance of these programs that aim at training and educating the trainers on OSH at these training centers in Palestine. He also empathized the entrepreneurial role of the University in selecting such distinguished training. As well Dr. Deema al-Nazer, the representative of these training centers stressed the University role through its COSHEP and the role of the training centers in promoting the OSH culture and transferring it to the other various distinguished centers.
It is noteworthy that this center is the first of its kind and it includes rehabilitation centers of excellence. Furthermore, it aims at rehabilitating the cadres who are specialized in occupational safety and health so that they can promote this culture in the vocational and technical training institutions in Palestine as well as improve the safety of students in the Centers of Excellence.
This training will cover a number of topics in evaluating the workplace environment and working on its improvements within the OSH conditions:
Fire fighting and fire safety systems and safe interaction with all kinds of fire. Selection of appropriate personal protective equipment in all the laboratories and workshops in the vocational and technical education institutions in Palestine. Dealing with all cases of first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and improving the work environment in the laboratories and workshop as well as the facilities of the centers of excellence and vocational and technical training in Palestine.
An agreement has been reached with experts and consultants in the field of OSH to provide such education and training in order to have qualified trainers, capable of dealing with the OSH systems in educational institutions.
Actually, this project aims to find a special system for OSH in the vocational and technical institutions, to train a specialized cadre in OSH, to rehabilitate all the laboratories and the workshops of the centers of excellence, to raise the culture of OSH in the centers and to try to minimize the number of occupational causalities and diseases in the training center. This can be achieved by having continuous connection and follow-up between the National Center and the centers of excellence to come up with an effective safety system in the institutions.
It is noteworthy that the University will proceed with this program for five days with the participation of the centers of excellence in the West Bank in Queen Plaza Hotel in Hebron until March 23, 2017.
