The PPU team participated in the 13th. World Robot Olympiad "WRO 2016" which was held in the Indian capital New Delhi in the presence of two thousand and five hundred participants from fifty countries around the world. The participant team which has represented the State of Palestine within the university category (Advanced Robot Challenge) brought together a group of engineering students: Mohammed Abdul Basit, Mahmoud Sharabati, and Hussam Irshaid under the supervision of Dr. Ramzi Qawasmi.
This participation, in which fifty teams have competed, is the first of its kind for a Palestinian university within the universities category. The WRO is actually a huge and an important event that brings together young people from all over the world to a challenge in the field of science, technology, and education. This Olympiad is providing an opportunity for youth development through a series of multi-robot challenges and competitions that develop creativity, innovation and problem-solving skills among students.
Al-Qawasmi, the team coordinator, stated that the presence of the Palestinian team in this competition was significant and they were able to capture the interest of others by demonstrating their ability to challenge and compete others, and he aspires to achieve advanced positions in the coming years through increasing the number of students participating actively in robot competitions. After that al-Qawasmi thanked all those who have given support to the university team, led by the National Organizer of the World Robot Olympiad: Engineer Munir Abed Rabbo , and the Supreme Council for Creativity and Excellence.
As well, Dr. Imad al-Khatib, the President of the Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU), stressed the importance of the participation of students and the Palestinian representation in all global forums and scientific and technological activities, which as he said is part of the university vision to support and develop the skills and the capabilities of the students.
